After School Program

Early Pick Up

The purpose of the Afterschool Program is to offer a balanced program of both academics and enrichment.  We offer homework support, interventions, reteaching, and a variety of enrichment. This year our enrichment activities include: African Drumming, Singing and Guitar, Science Workshop, Technology Academy, Wetlands Stewardship, and our very own Ms. Debbie for Art.

It is important that students attend all five days for the full program. When they are pulled out early on a regular basis they miss out on valuable teacher support, homework completion and enrichment. This is particiularly important as our funding is based on attendance so we have to make sure students are here every day. We also have a long waiting list of students who would like to attend. If your child is going to be absent please call the school and ask for extension 4342 to let us know.  We do our best to call every day when a child is marked absent.

Hello, Mustang After School Students, Parents and Teachers...

The first semester of the 2016-17 school year has been eventful.  The after school program continues to include many of the activities students enjoyed last year.  There are a wide spectrum of enrichment choices, such as:  Swimming and Nutrition Classes, Drama Class, Science Workshop, Garden Class, Arts and Crafts Class, and Cooking Class.  An SPCA representative came to our school and provided students with information about pets and animals in general.

Academic support is an essential component of the After School Program.  After school teachers provide homework support, daily reading time, and connections to the Second Step focus area of the month.  Second Step is the social/emotional curriculum that is being implemented by the regular day staff.

EXPANDED GARDEN CLASSES:  More students are able to participate in garden classes this year.  Kyle O'Brien is at MacQuiddy on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Students are continuing to learn about plants and nutrition as well as helping to maintain the garden.  A big thank you to Mr. Kyle and our MacQuiddy students for all their hard work!

COOKING CLASS:  Ms. Castro has been teaching a cooking class on Tuesdays.  She has been utilizing the produce from our MacQuiddy garden and from the Second Harvest Food Bank delivery.  Students are learning how to make healthy, nutritious things to eat.  And...surprise, healthy and nutritious can be really yummy!!!

FITNESS 4 LIFE:  This year Fitness 4 Life coaches have been scheduled to work with our MacQuiddy students on Thursdays.  Students are participating in fitness activities and exercises.
